Consumption
We are the base consumers, the final shrapnel of Fordism left after the Era of Social Movements. We buy the cheap products, the quick products and the products most easily acquired. We buy beer that offers no surprises, shoes made of plastic that may last a year if we're lucky and hope for 15 crowns a pop in the shape of mini-chance lottery tickets.
We eat fast, fat and empty food that makes our lives pass fast, fat and empty. The Jokes on us and we laugh along at our self-representations in sitcoms made for repetition aired in the dead hours when our work has ended and we have yet to fall to sleep.
After the alarm clock shriek, the quick shower, the cup of coffee we sit on the bus to our meaningless jobs reading the free, short-news-feed paper and wonder why our lives aren't perfect like the morsel sized articles promises. If we could only follow the advices there-in printed.
"Take an hour to cook slow-food with your whole family!", "Follow our training experts tips on how to live a slimmer healthier life!", "Go to Bali in the spring!".
These are not advices, there orders. This is what we should be but "chose" not to in the logic of the modern day world. You decide what you are and looking at our bank accounts, bodies and bearing - fuck, didn't we chose wrong from the start?
But Wait Theres More! There Is Still Hope!
Buy these cheap ass sensations, hopes or objects and may be You Too will connect with the inner supermodel we all appearently have inside ourselves.
We are all really just Cameron Diaz in a fat suit waiting to get out.
Brad Pitt with make-up zits and fake buck teeth.
Lucy Liu playing the role of a working single mother of two.
Truth, Happiness and eternal Bliss is out there if you could only buy the right, cheap, crap to fill the void until you can find the Products of Higher Cost just waiting around the corner!
We are the Base Consumers. The Jokes on us and we laugh along.
No wonder they keep saying that Money doesn't make you happy when they see us poor folks laughing all the way to the grave.
